For all those who follow HH The Dalai Lama, there is more to come. In this age of technology, it is amazing we can receive teachings thousands of miles away from Dharamsala where HH The Dalai Lam is based. After the world wide teachings on Nagarjuna’s “Precious Garland”, HH is going to give empowerment of Chenrezig (Skt. Avaloketesvara) on May 29th and 30th from 9.00am to 10.30am Indian Standard Time. The first day will be the preliminary and the next day will be the actual empowerment.
There will be translation in 14 different languages.
Every one is asked to observe social distance even as people listen to the teachings.
For the benefit of those who may not know about the empowerment. First the meaning of empowerment which is called “wang” in Tibetan is to empower the individual to do practice of the specific Buddha or deity. In this case the Buddha Chenrezig, By taking the empowerment, it empowers or entitles the individual to do practice of the deity or Buddha. There is a rule especially in Tantric teachings that there are certain criteria to practice certain Tantric teachings and without receiving the empowerment, they are not allowed to do so. . That is why, empowerment here means to empower the receiver to do the practice of Avaloketeshvara. Tibetans call Chenrezig, It means the one with benevolent eyes. Chenrezig is the Buddha who is the manifestation of the compassion of all Buddhas. The benefit of taking this empowerment is to achieve liberation from the lower states of rebirth. In other words, it helps to achieve a good rebirth in the future.
